Just like traditional colleges there are good online schools and not so good online schools. Unfortunately there are also online colleges that are complete scams and offer degrees that are basically worthless. The key to making sure that you choose a good school at which to get your online education is to make sure that it is properly accredited. There are many different types of accreditation but the gold standard is regional accreditation. If a school is accredited by one of the regional accrediting agencies you can be sure that the school is legitimate and the degree will be accepted by other schools and employers.

For the working professional there are a lot of advantages to getting an online degree, there are however some disadvantages. The fact that you don't get to interact with other students is a serious downside for some people. School tends to be an excellent networking opportunity and this is something you miss out on with an online education. That being said in most cases the convenience and flexibility of an online degree usually more than makes up for any disadvantages.
